The Outcomes of Our Viscocanalostomy In The Middle and Long Term

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to evaluate the outcomes and complications of our patients with viscocanalostomy in the middle and long term.
METHODS: Records of 25 eyes of 22 patients who underwent viscocanalostomy in our clinic between 2001-2005 were retrospectively reviewed. Complete ophthalmologic examinations were performed including intraocular pressure (IOP) values, and complications were recorded in preoperative and postoperative 1st week, 1st month, 3rd month, 6th month, 1st year and last controls of the cases.
RESULTS: Fourteen of the patients were male (63.6%), 8 of them were female (36.4%) and the mean age was 62.43 ± 10.90 (30-75 years). Mean follow-up time was 50.94 ± 51.72 months. The mean preoperative IOP was 23.32 ± 10.56 mmHg. The mean IOP at the postoperative 1st week, 1st month, 3rd month, 6th month, 1st year and last follow-up were 18.09 ± 10.24mmHg, 13.62 ± 4.15mmHg, 13.86 ± 5.50mmHg, 14.08 ± 4.09mmHg, 14.45 ± 4.80 mmHg and 14.51 ± 7.95 mmHg, respectively. Postoperatively, mean IOPs in all controls were statistically significantly lower than preoperative IOPs (p <0.05). Success rates with medication or medication-free at follow-up at postoperative 1 week, 6 months, 1 year, and 4 years and more were 81.81%, 94.44%, 90.91%, and 87.5%, respectively.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Viscocanalostomy is a surgical technique that is reliable in medium and long-term in glaucoma patients for decrease IOP.

Orta ve Uzun Dönem Viskokanalostomi Sonuçlarımız

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Viskokanalostomi yapılan olgularımızın orta ve uzun vadedeki sonuçlarını ve komplikasyonlarını değerlendirmeyi amaçladık.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Kliniğimizde 2001-2005 yılları arasında viskokanalostomi uygulanan 22 hastanın 25 gözüne ait kayıtlar retrospektif olarak incelendi. Olguların ameliyat öncesi ve ameliyat sonrası 1. hafta, 1. ay, 3. ay, 6. ay, 1. yıl ve son kontrollerinde göz içi basınç (GİB) ölçümlerini de içeren tam oftalmolojik muayeneleri yapıldı ve gelişen komplikasyonlar kaydedildi.
BULGULAR: Hastaların 14'ü erkek (%63.6), 8’i kadın (%36.4) olup, yaş ortalaması 62.43±10.90 (30-75 yıl) idi. Ortalama takip süresi 50.94±51.72 aydı. Ameliyat öncesi ortalama GİB 23.32±10.56 mmHg idi. Ameliyat sonrası 1. hafta, 1. ay, 3. ay, 6. ay, 1. yıl ve son kontroldeki ortalama GİB sırasıyla 18.09 ± 10.24mmHg, 13.62±4.15 mmHg, 13.86±5.50 mmHg, 14.08±4.09 mmHg, 14.45±4.80 mmHg ve 14.51±7.95 mmHg idi. Ameliyat sonrası tüm kontrollerdeki ortalama GİB’ler ameliyat öncesi ortalama GİB’den istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede düşük bulundu (p<0.05). Ameliyat sonrası 1. hafta, 6. ay, 1. yıl ve 4 yıl ve daha fazla takipli olgularda ilaçlı veya ilaçsız başarı oranı sırasıyla %81.81, %94.44, %90.91 ve %87,5 idi.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Viskokanalostomi ameliyatı glokom hastalarında GİB’i düşürmede orta ve uzun vadede etkin ve güvenilir bir ameliyat tekniğidir.
